By: malcr001. on 15 May 09, 00:26:37 A lot of it if youve have a dslr for a while you should already know although I think the root of what he is sayin is learn the basics, but dont be afraid to do something different and brake some of the rules thats how you set yourself apart. Sure expensive equipment may help more to getting a good quality photo but at the end of the day its down to the photographer not the equipment that gets the wow factor in the photo.

A Canon 20D and a new age mobile phone camera both have around 8MP, which do you think will produce the better image? It's not about MP, anything over 6MP will give you a decent size A3 print, glass and the quality of the sensor is more important. Peace.

Its true that a DSLR frame is of much higher resolution but my $150 pocket digital (Pentax Optio E30)will beat my Canon Rebel $1,000 hands down on the planets. By stacking a thousand frames of video (about 1 minute) the resulting image knocks the DSLR frame out of the park. However on Deep Sky the DSLR will win evertime as its image sensor is much lower noise and higher resolution on a single frame. Good work!

I'm starting out as a semi-professional photographer and one thing i'm doing is light painting with fire.
Fire seems to be rough to use, but produces some rather fun images. I usually use an ISO of 100, speed of 30 seconds and an F-stop of 5.6 seconds.

Nope, you have to read and _understand_ the theory it teaches, then you can come up with your own setups based on knowledge about light.

By: Lilkiwiguy87. on 27 Jun 09, 00:26:26 It is important to close the viewfinder when your eye is away from it to prevent "Light Spray" where light from the viewfinder can leak through the shutter mirror when it is raised up (while capturing the photograph), which could result in a little haze onto the images.

Yes, Mr. Rockwell ... By: Lilkiwiguy87. on 10 May 09, 07:28:49 Yes, Mr. Rockwell is correct on framing problem, but it is more of an inconvenience than a problem. All Micro-Nikkor lenses (including PC-E and old zoom lenses) have this same "problem" but the user must be aware of that to work around it by moving closer or further from the subject. Why? Because when you get closer, the elements in the lens moves closer to get close to the subject, too... Just like how a microscope works.
lol, it seems like ... By: v1660. on 10 May 09, 07:06:56 lol, it seems like i have to doublecheck everything. he was right on the lenses however, nikons page affirmed it.
he says the 105 macro lense is great, but it has one problem; framing. when you focus you have to adjust the camera position to get the right framing as the focusing "breathes". is that right?

Umm... Nikkor 30mm ... By: Lilkiwiguy87. on 09 Mar 09, 05:37:06 Umm... Nikkor 30mm ?/1.2 doesn't exist... Unless you're talking about 35mm ?/1.8G AF-S DX? It is not a Micro-Nikkor lens, either, no close-up ability and it requires to be stopped down more to get decent sharpness. It's in the same league as Nikkor 50mm ?/1.8D AF lens.
My advice to you is ... By: repory. on 09 Mar 09, 04:11:24 My advice to you is go for Nikkor's new 30mm f/1.2, which actually is decent, fast and perfect for low light.!! As Lilkiwiguy87 said 50mm isn't for macro, its usually used for portraits.!! Ame usin a Nikkor 60mm f/2.8G ED as well.!! Pretty gud in low light.!!
The 50mm ?/1.4G ... By: Lilkiwiguy87. on 24 Feb 09, 12:57:49 The 50mm ?/1.4G AF-S is not a Micro-Nikkor and you will not be able to do close-ups with this lens. One cannot compare the 50mm and 60mm because of the fast aperture, 10mm difference, and close-up ability, so, you're down to 60mm or 105mm VR.
Yes, the 60mm ?/2.8G AF-S ED-IF Micro-Nikkor does fantastic job in the dark. Heck, you can shoot at ISO 1600 at F/2.8 in pitch black dark room without a problem.
Nice video love it! ... By: MrAlTalib. on 24 Feb 09, 11:42:02 Nice video love it!
ok I question. I have the D90 and I'm about to buy one of the these lenses:
AF-S Micro- NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8G ED
AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G
OR
AF-S VR Micro-NIKKOR 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED >> which I think does the job of the first 2 lenses. or am i wrong.

By: Lilkiwiguy87. on 06 Feb 09, 13:23:54 When your eye is away from the viewfinder while taking a photograph, ALWAYS cover the viewfinder with the supplied cover, built-in curtain, or your thumb to prevent "backdoor light" from entering the viewfinder that could do two things: 1) confuse the metering and / or 2) spray unwanted light and flares onto the photograph from the extremely reflective pentaprism (viewfinder glass box).

I see where you are coming from but with a landscape you would want quite a bit in focus... Totally agree not to go for longer than 30 seconds!

I know, but this video is meant for beginners and I wanted to keep it simple - and also avoid shutter speeds longer than 30 seconds.

Nice video mate, but setting your camera to the widest aperture would mean the DOF is very limited
